.Hand Care for fitness.
Proud of those bulging callouses? Nice job! You worked hard, and your hands show it.
However, those giant callouses won’t help you in one of your next workouts. Eventually, your going to grab that dumbbell, kettle-bell, pull up bar, barbell, and it’s going to rip.
I once ripped when doing a burpee, not even grabbing anything!
Rips are the opposite of progress in fitness. You will be hindered for a week while your skin heals…and washing your hands and showering will not be the same experience!
So, how do we prevent rips? We take extra care of those hands!
Taking care of your hands can be an easy two-step process that won’t require an extra time or financial commitment.
Step 1: Moisturize
Keep lotion everywhere. Your purse, your car, your desk at work, you chair in the living room, wherever you are, make it available. Constantly moisturize those hands. Choose a lotion you like so that you will use it. My goal is to lotion my hands at least 3 times a day.
Step 2: Shave
No, not like your legs! In order to prevent rips, keep those rough spots as low as possible! There are many methods to doing this. A pumice stone in the shower, a nail file, a callous remover, etc. Use something that will shave your callouses down without ripping your skin underneath and around it. The goal is to have your callouses even with the rest of your skin.
Most products can be found at your local drug store or grocery store. Over time you will find the products that will work best for you.
